Hyderabad, Mar 20 (TNT): The Telangana government on Friday announced a slew of new welfare and development initiatives in the 2026–27 Annual Budget, aimed at strengthening social security, improving public education, expanding healthcare access, and enhancing employment opportunities.
Presenting the budget in the Assembly with an outlay of ₹3.24 lakh crore, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the government will launch the ‘Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme’ from June 2, 2026.
The scheme will provide ₹5 lakh life insurance coverage to each of the state’s 1.15 crore families, irrespective of economic status, he said a budget allocation of ₹4,000 crore has been proposed.
Under the ‘Cheyutha scheme’, 2 lakh new pensions will be sanctioned for eligible beneficiaries, with an outlay of ₹14,861 crore, he said.
In the education sector, the minister said select government schools will be upgraded into ‘Telangana Public Schools’ with modern infrastructure, trained teachers, digital facilities, and transport systems.
Each school will cater to around 1,500 students from pre-primary to Class 12. The initiative has been allocated ₹500 crore, he said.
A ‘breakfast scheme’ will be introduced from the 2026–27 academic year for students from pre-primary to intermediate levels, he said the programme will provide nutritious food, including milk three days a week and ragi malt on the remaining days. An allocation of ₹800 crore has been proposed.
He also announced the extension of the ‘midday meal scheme’ to students in government junior colleges, with a budget allocation of ₹100 crore.
A ‘cashless health protection scheme’ will be implemented for employees, pensioners, and their dependents, covering around 23.51 lakh beneficiaries.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the scheme will be executed through the Rajiv Aarogyasri Trust, offering treatment for 1,998 diseases across government and 421 empanelled private hospitals, along with digital health cards.
Additionally, an ‘Employees’ Accident Insurance Scheme’ has been introduced, providing ₹1.2 crore compensation in case of accidental death, ₹10 lakh term life insurance up to the age of 60, and ₹2 crore coverage in case of air accident deaths, he said the scheme will cover 7.57 lakh employees and pensioners. A combined allocation of ₹1,056 crore has been proposed for health and insurance schemes.
To promote overseas employment, the government will launch the ‘CM Overseas Employment Program’, offering skill development, language training, visa assistance, and travel support, with job opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, construction, and logistics. The programme has been allocated ₹1,056 crore, he said.
Further, trainees undergoing training in ATCs will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹2,000, with a budget allocation of ₹80 crore, he added.
