Hyderabad, Mar 18 (TNT): CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 2 Degrees Clicon Pvt. Ltd. to collaborate on advanced research in plastic-to-fuel technology.
The partnership aims to develop scientific solutions for converting non-recyclable, end-of-life plastics into alternative industrial fuels, supporting sustainable waste management and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the Hyderabad based Institute said in a release here.
Plastic waste from fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), particularly multi-layered packaging such as snack wrappers and sachets, remains one of the most challenging waste streams to recycle.
A significant portion of such waste is currently disposed of in landfills or through open burning.
The Institute said its ongoing research focuses on advanced thermochemical processes to convert such unrecyclable plastics into usable energy resources and industrial raw materials.
Director of CSIR-IICT, Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, said the collaboration combines the institute’s process innovation expertise with industry capabilities to enable large-scale deployment of plastic-to-fuel technologies, generating both environmental and economic benefits.
CEO and Co-founder of 2 Degrees Clicon, Sheetal Agarwal, said the partnership would help strengthen the scientific foundation of plastic-to-fuel solutions, improve efficiency and fuel quality, and enable wider industrial adoption of sustainable energy alternatives.
2 Degrees Clicon specialises in converting difficult-to-recycle plastic waste into fuels such as Alternate Diesel Fuel (ADF) and Petro Polymer Fuel (PPF), which are used by industries including cement and steel in high-temperature operations.
The collaboration will focus on improving process efficiency, enhancing fuel quality and developing scalable solutions for plastic waste valorisation, in line with growing industry demand and the push towards a circular economy.
