Hyderabad, Mar 17 (TNT): K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Tuesday criticised the Congress-led Telangana government over the Governor’s address in the Assembly, alleging that it had lost credibility due to unfulfilled promises.
Participating in the debate on the Governor’s speech, KTR said the address, which outlines the government’s policy direction, had been reduced to a “mere formality” without accountability.
He recalled that during the first address after the Congress assumed power, then Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had announced that the “six guarantees” would be given legal status. Questioning the status of a file reportedly signed by the Chief Minister, Rao demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe.
“Where is the file granting legal status to the six guarantees? If such an important document is missing, an SIT must be constituted immediately,” he said.
KTR alleged that the failure to implement promises within the stipulated timeframe had eroded public trust.
He claimed that despite assurances that families would benefit substantially under the guarantees, there was little evidence of delivery on the ground.
He also criticised ministers for making “contradictory statements” in the Assembly and urged the Speaker to ensure accountability.
Targeting the government’s performance, Rao alleged deterioration in governance over the past two years, citing rising debt, declining revenues, and what he termed as financial mismanagement.
He further claimed that industrial growth and IT employment had slowed, and dismissed investment claims as “exaggerated”.
On welfare, the BRS leader accused the government of failing to deliver on promises related to women, farmers, unemployed youth, and pensioners, while alleging that several schemes of the previous regime had been diluted or discontinued.
He also raised concerns over issues in agriculture, education, and law and order, and accused the government of prioritising political interests over development.
Asserting that the opposition would continue to raise public issues, he said the BRS would not be deterred by “pressure or cases” and would persist in holding the government accountable.
