14,000-Cr Water Supply Plan to Cover All Households in AP: Minister Narayana

Visakhapatnam, Mar 17 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh  government has invited tenders worth ₹14,000 crore to provide drinking water to every household in the state and safe water supply would be ensured across municipalities within two years, said  Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana here on Tuesday

Speaking after inaugurating the Alluri Sitarama Raju Park in Gajuwaka near here, Narayana said drainage works worth ₹5,000 crore are underway and additional central assistance of ₹4,000 crore is expected for infrastructure development.

The Minister said a survey for the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project is being conducted by RITES and the project would be taken forward after submission of the report.

He added that plans are being prepared to develop Dayal Nagar Hill on the lines of Kailasagiri and to establish a cultural centre in Samata Nagar.

Earlier, after inaugurating the park and unveiling a statue of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, Narayana assured a permanent solution to issues related to the Gajuwaka Garbage Transfer Station.

He said complaints regarding foul smell had been brought to his notice and directed officials to ensure prompt transportation of waste to waste-to-energy plants, eliminating dumping yards.

He also instructed authorities to modernise the facility without causing inconvenience to the public.

Visakhapatnam Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao said a special action plan has been prepared for Gajuwaka’s development, while officials indicated that the garbage issue would be resolved within the next few months.
