Hyderabad, Mar 16 (TNT): Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Shiv Sena Telangana president Sinkaru Shivaji on Monday criticised the walkout by MLAs of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) during the singing of Vande Mataram in the Telangana Assembly.
In a post on X (social media platform), Sanjay termed the walkout “shameful”, alleging that leaving the House during the rendition of the national song amounted to an insult to India’s national symbols and to Bharat Mata.
He questioned the party’s stance towards national symbols and said the incident had exposed the “true colours” of the Majlis.
In a separate statement, Shivaji also condemned the move, saying those who cannot respect the national song have no moral right to remain in the Assembly.
He described the incident as “unfortunate and shameful”, particularly in what he called the “temple of democracy”.
He demanded that MIM legislators explain to the public and their voters why they walked out during the singing of Vande Mataram. Stating that the song symbolises the self-respect and patriotism of millions of Indians, Shivaji said insulting it amounts to disrespecting the spirit of the nation.
He also urged the Assembly Speaker to take the matter seriously and demanded strict action against the members involved, including cancellation of their membership if necessary.
