Union Coal Min.Kishan Reddy lays foundation stone for Coal Gasification Projects in Maharashtra

Chandrapur (Maharahstra) , Mar 14 (TNT): Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy laid the foundation stone for coal gasification projects here on Saturday along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

On ‘X’, Kishan Reddy said the projects would come up at the Bhadravati industrial area in Chandrapur under the Centre’s coal gasification mission aimed at enhancing coal value and promoting sustainable utilisation of coal resources.

The Union government has set a target of gasifying 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030, he said.

To promote the initiative, the Centre has announced incentives worth ₹8,500 crore for both public sector undertakings and private companies, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said.

Under the scheme, Greta Energy and Metal Private Limited will establish a coal gasification project for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) production, while New Era Cleantech Solution Private Limited will set up a facility to produce ammonium nitrate and hydrogen, he added.

Officials said the initiative would help utilise India’s coal reserves, estimated at around 401 billion tonnes, and reduce dependence on imported oil and gas by promoting coal-based gasification technologies.
