Hyderabad, Mar 13 (TNT): Bharat Biotech on Friday celebrated three decades of scientific excellence and global leadership in vaccine development, marking the milestone with the unveiling of a special anniversary logo at its facility in Genome Valley in Hyderabad.
The commemorative logo was unveiled by the company’s founders, Krishna Ella, Executive Chairman, and Suchitra Ella, Managing Director, in the presence of employees.
The event also marked the beginning of a year-long series of initiatives celebrating the company’s journey and reaffirming its commitment to advancing global health.
Founded in 1996, Bharat Biotech has grown from a single facility on the outskirts of Hyderabad into a global biotechnology leader, playing a key role in transforming Genome Valley into a major life sciences hub.
Reflecting on the milestone, Krishna Ella said the company was founded on the belief that Indian science can address global health challenges through innovation, strong scientific research and affordable healthcare solutions.
Suchitra Ella said the company’s journey has been shaped by the dedication of researchers, partners and healthcare professionals, adding that Bharat Biotech is now expanding its focus into advanced cell and gene therapies while continuing its mission of “science for society”.
Over the years, the company has developed vaccines that form part of national and global immunisation programmes, including those for Rotavirus infection, Japanese Encephalitis, Typhoid fever and Malaria.
A major milestone in its journey was the development of COVAXIN, India’s first indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bharat Biotech has also emerged as the world’s largest manufacturer of rabies vaccines, strengthening global access to life-saving post-exposure treatment.
Today, the company has a portfolio of more than 20 vaccines, manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, Ankleshwar and Odisha, and a robust intellectual property base with over 220 granted patents.
With a workforce of more than 4,000 employees, Bharat Biotech has supplied over nine billion vaccine doses to more than 125 countries, reinforcing India’s position as a key global supplier of affordable vaccines.
