Kavali (Nellore Dist, Andhra Pradesh), Mar 12 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Thursday evening laid the foundation stone for India’s first Autonomous Maritime Shipyard and Systems Development Centre at Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Bogole mandal of Nellore district.
The facility will be developed by Pune-based Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited with the support of the state government.
The company will invest ₹45 crore in the first phase, creating over 1,000 employment opportunities for youth in the region.
The state government has allotted 29.58 acres of land on lease, including 7.58 acres of waterfront land, for the project at the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour.
Commercial operations are expected to begin by November this year.
The project, which will eventually be expanded to 200 acres, will focus on autonomous shipbuilding, marine engineering, autonomous systems development, research and development, providing job opportunities in advanced maritime and defence technologies.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s domestic defence manufacturing capabilities, promote the blue economy, and position Andhra Pradesh as a hub for maritime robotics and autonomous shipbuilding.
The event was attended by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, MLAs , AP Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satyanarayana, MLCs and Sagar Defence Engineering Founder and CEO Capt. Nikunj Parashar, among others.
