Hyderabad, Mar 7 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, on Saturday appealed to top Maoist leaders, including Muppala Lakshmana Rao (Ganapathi), to surrender, join the mainstream and participate in the reconstruction of the state.
Addressing a press conference after a Maoist surrender programme at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) here, Revanth Reddy said the government is ready to revoke cases registered against Naxalites within the purview of law and also constitute a committee, if required, to review the cases.
As many as 130 Maoists surrendered along with 124 sophisticated weapons before the state government in the presence of the Chief Minister.
Revanth Reddy congratulated them for responding to the government’s appeal and returning to mainstream life.
The Chief Minister said the government is sympathetic to the issues raised by Maoists and ready to resolve them through dialogue.
“Dialogue is the only solution. Ballot is more powerful than bullet to resolve problems,” he said, adding that India believes in addressing challenges through peaceful means.
Revanth Reddy said the government will soon take a decision on providing a financial rehabilitation package to surrendered Maoists and will also ensure better medical care for them.
The Union Government has given freedom to the state government to extend healthcare, financial assistance and housing to surrendered Naxalites, he added.
Referring to proposals made by surrendered Maoists including Devji and Damodar, the Chief Minister said he had brought the matter to the attention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He expressed hope that the surrendered Maoists would bring people’s issues to the notice of the government in the future and contribute to democratic processes.
The Chief Minister also congratulated the police officials who convinced Maoists to surrender by assuring them of rehabilitation and support.
