Hyderabad, Mar 5 (TNT): Lonza Group AG has chosen Hyderabad as the location for a new global capability centre (GCC), a move expected to strengthen the city’s position as a key hub for the life sciences industry.
A delegation from the Switzerland-headquartered company met Telangana IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu and CEO of Telangana Lifesciences, Shakthi M. Nagappan here on Thursday to communicate the decision and discuss plans for the proposed centre.
Lonza Group AG operates more than 30 sites globally and employs about 20,000 people.
In 2025, the company reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion and a core EBITDA of CHF 2.1 billion.
The company selected Hyderabad following an evaluation process, citing the city’s talent pool, infrastructure and supportive industrial ecosystem.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lonza’s decision to establish its new centre in Hyderabad,” D. Sridhar Babu, adding that the investment would strengthen the state’s position in the global biopharmaceutical sector and create employment opportunities.
Shakthi M. Nagappan said the development marks another milestone in the expansion of Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem.
The proposed GCC is expected to generate high-value jobs and further integrate Hyderabad into the global biopharmaceutical value chain.
