Hyderabad, Feb 28 (TNT): AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel amid the escalating Iran–Israel tensions, stating that the move was untimely and inconsistent with India’s long-standing foreign policy stance.
In a statement, Owaisi said India had maintained a neutral and balanced approach to the West Asian region for over eight decades and questioned the decision to depart from that position at a sensitive time.
He said nearly 10 million Indians reside in Gulf countries and asked what message the Prime Minister’s visit would convey to the region during heightened tensions.
He remarked that if the escalation had taken place while the Prime Minister was airborne, the seriousness of the situation would have been more apparent.
Referring to statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Owaisi alleged that the visit was used by Israel to project international endorsement at a critical juncture.
He further claimed that several Indian media personnel who travelled to Israel to cover the Prime Minister’s visit were stranded due to the conflict, and questioned the government’s assessment of the prevailing situation.
