Sagar Defence raises Rs 300-cr in pre-IPO funding at Rs 20,000-cr valuation

Pune, Nov 6 (TNT) : Sagar Defence Engineering Limited (SDE), an Indian developer of unmanned and autonomous defence systems, has raised Rs 300 crore from domestic institutional investors in a pre-IPO funding round at a pre-money valuation of Rs 20,000 crore.

The funds would support its expansion in research and development, autonomous systems, advanced manufacturing and indigenous technology capabilities, the company said in a release on Friday.

Founded in 2015 by Capt. Nikunj Parashar and his co-founders, SDE began operations from a 150-square-foot workspace and has since evolved into a vertically integrated defence technology enterprise with research, engineering, design and manufacturing capabilities.

The company is expanding its manufacturing and research infrastructure in Pune, Maharashtra, and developing an Autonomous Systems Shipyard and Maritime Systems Research Centre in Andhra Pradesh.

SDE’s journey was highlighted at Swavlamban 2026, the Indian Navy’s fifth Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, held in New Delhi on October 26 and 27. The event brought together representatives of the armed forces, startups, micro, small and medium enterprises, researchers and industry stakeholders to promote indigenous defence innovation.

The company said the latest funding reflected growing institutional interest in India’s deep-tech sector, particularly in strategically important areas requiring sustained investment in research, engineering, testing and manufacturing.

“We have received SEBI’s final observations and have successfully concluded our pre-IPO fundraising round, raising Rs 300 crore. At this stage, I am not in a position to comment further,” Capt. Parashar said.
