PI Industries unveils India’s first indigenously discovered insecticide molecule

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (TNT): PI Industries, a leading Indian agrisciences and life sciences company, has unveiled Pioxaniliprole, described as India’s first indigenously discovered insecticide molecule, marking a milestone in the country’s agricultural research and crop-protection industry.
The molecule, developed through more than a decade of research and investment, has received registration from the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC) under the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Gurugram (Haryana) based company said in a release on Tuesday..
The committee formally recognised it as the first insecticide active ingredient discovered in India, the company said in a statement.
Pioxaniliprole underwent extensive evaluation under Indian agricultural conditions, including multilocation field trials, scientific assessments and regulatory studies, with participation from the country’s agricultural research institutions, including State Agricultural Universities.
PI Industries Vice Chairperson and Managing Director Mayank Singhal said the discovery was the outcome of more than a decade of efforts to build indigenous capabilities in crop-protection research.
The achievement demonstrated India’s growing ability to develop original scientific discoveries and intellectual property, he said.
The company said its research and development ecosystem covered molecular discovery, chemistry, biology, formulation science, toxicology, agronomy, process development and manufacturing.
With over 700 scientists, including more than 200 PhDs, and a portfolio of over 260 patents, PI Industries is developing an innovation pipeline spanning chemistry, biology and biochemical solutions.
PI Industries Chairperson Narayan K Seshadri said the discovery represented an important milestone in Indian agricultural science and provided a foundation for the company’s next generation of innovations.
The company said the development would strengthen indigenous research capabilities and create opportunities for Indian-origin agricultural technologies to address global agricultural challenges.
