Amit Shah accuses Congress of protecting infiltrators, alleges ‘RR Tax’ in Telangana

Hyderabad, Nov 2 (TNT): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday accused the Congress of protecting illegal immigrants by opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged that the Revanth Reddy government in Telangana was collecting ‘RR Tax’ (Rahul-Revanth Tax) and sending the money to the party leadership in Delhi.

Addressing a public meeting at Moazzam Jahi Market after participating in the BJP’s Maha Padayatra in Hyderabad, Shah described the Congress rally in Delhi as a ‘Ghuspaithiya Bachao’ (Save Infiltrators) rally rather than an ‘Vote Bachao’ (Save Vote) rally.

He alleged that Rahul Gandhi was misleading people by claiming that 13 crore votes had been deleted from electoral rolls. Shah claimed that the deletions included 6.5 crore entries of people who had shifted, three crore deceased persons, one crore duplicate entries and three crore entries allegedly linked to Bangladeshi infiltrators.

He asserted that only Indian citizens were entitled to voting rights and said no illegal infiltrator would be allowed to remain on the electoral rolls despite opposition from Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy.

Defending the SIR exercise, Shah said the BJP had won the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections without it and had also secured victories in Haryana and Maharashtra after the 2024 general elections.

Rejecting allegations of EVM manipulation, he questioned why the Congress had won in Telangana if electronic voting machines were responsible for the BJP’s victories.

Shah said the BJP was ready for a debate on SIR and EVMs in Parliament and challenged the Congress to participate.

Alleging corruption in Telangana, he accused the Congress government of collecting money in the name of ‘RR Tax’ and diverting it to the party’s central leadership.

He also alleged that the Congress had failed to fulfil its election promises in States where it was in power.

Comparing the Congress-led UPA’s 10-year tenure with the 12 years of the Narendra Modi government, Shah alleged that corruption involving Rs 12 lakh crore had taken place during the UPA regime, while claiming that the Modi government had faced no corruption allegations.

He said the BRS and AIMIM were unable to effectively challenge the Congress government in Telangana and claimed that the BJP was the only party capable of fighting corruption in the State.

The Maha Padayatra, held under the slogan ‘Save Democracy, End Anarchy’, began near the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue at LB Stadium and proceeded to Moazzam Jahi Market.

Shah walked along the route and greeted party workers.

At the public meeting, he paid tributes  Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Ramji Gond, who were prominent Gond adivasi tribal leaders from Adilabad and Nirmal regions of Telangana.

Recalling Hyderabad’s integration into the Indian Union, he said the city became part of India due to Sardar Patel’s intervention against the Nizam.

Shah called upon BJP workers to work towards ending the Congress rule in Telangana and expressed confidence that the party would form the government in the State in the coming years.

Earlier, Shah offered prayers at the Bhagyalakshmi temple in Hyderabad’s Old City.

The meeting was attended by BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao, Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP Parliamentary Board member K Laxman, MPs Eatala Rajender, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, D K Aruna, Arvind Dharmapuri and Godam Nagesh, besides party MLAs, MLCs and other leaders.
