Telangana CM Revanth alleges bid to delete 20-cr voters, joins INDIA bloc rally in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 1 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday alleged that the BJP-led Centre was conspiring to delete the names of another 20 crore voters from electoral rolls after removing 13.50 crore votes, and accused it of targeting Dalits, Adivasis, women and other weaker sections.

Addressing Congress workers at Telangana Bhavan ahead of the ‘Vote Bachao – Desh Bachao’ rally at Ramlila Maidan, he alleged that the proposed exercise was aimed at depriving citizens of their constitutional right to vote and retaining political power.

Revanth Reddy accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of harbouring resentment against the poor and weaker sections for not giving the BJP the mandate of 400 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

He alleged that the BJP had planned to amend the Constitution and abolish reservations if it secured the target.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Election Commission, under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, was being used to carry out the exercise and claimed that the proposed deletions could affect 15 to 20 per cent of the electorate.

He further alleged that the BJP had used strategic voter deletions to come to power in Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal and was seeking to adopt the same approach to retain power.

The Congress and INDIA bloc, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, had organised the rally to oppose the alleged attempt to undermine voting rights, he said.

Revanth Reddy also alleged that authorities had cancelled trains arranged to transport 15,000 people from Telangana to Delhi to prevent Congress workers from attending the meeting.

Despite the cancellations, thousands of party leaders and workers had reached the national capital, he said.

Calling Congress workers a ‘Vanara Sena’ fighting against the BJP, he urged them to take the message of the INDIA bloc leaders at the rally to every village and household.

He asserted that the Congress would continue its struggle until the BJP was defeated.

Earlier, the Chief Minister was welcomed by Telangana Congress leaders and workers at Telangana Bhavan.

He later called on AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and joined the rally procession to Ramlila Maidan along with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other senior leaders.

INDIA bloc leaders Farooq Abdullah, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav, Mehbooba Mufti and Sanjay Raut also participated in the rally.
