Nita Ambani announces 100-acre lifelong care home for over 5,000 people near Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 1 (TNT): Reliance Foundation Founder and Chairperson Nita Ambani on Sunday announced the establishment of ‘Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray’, a 100-acre residential township near Mumbai envisioned as a lifelong home for orphaned children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Nita Ambani performed the Bhumi Pujan and groundbreaking ceremony at the proposed site in Karjat.

The not-for-profit initiative will be developed in phases, the Foundation said in a release.

The proposed facility is designed to accommodate more than 5,000 residents, including children without parental care, persons with developmental disabilities and senior citizens.

Along with caregivers, medical professionals, support staff and their families, the township is expected to support a community of around 15,000 people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nita Ambani said the initiative aimed to create a caring community where people with disabilities, children needing a home and senior citizens could live with dignity, supported by healthcare and opportunities for learning, work and personal development.

She said the vision was to provide a permanent home and family environment for children who might otherwise face uncertainty about their future care, while ensuring that every resident could lead a meaningful life.

The proposed township will comprise eight residential villages, each named after a sacred river of India. It will have family-style homes, a hospital, temple, playgrounds, gardens, farms and workshops, she said.

Residents will be supported by dedicated caregivers and individualised care and development plans covering healthcare, education, skills, employment and personal well-being. The plans will be reviewed at least once every six months to address changing needs.

The initiative also envisages serving neighbouring villages through its hospital, temple, sports facilities and cafes.

Around 1,000 people from the surrounding region are expected to access therapy, education and employment opportunities, while others will benefit from respite care, outreach programmes and community healthcare services.

The initiative is rooted in Reliance Foundation’s ‘We Care’ philosophy and seeks to create an inclusive community where residents can live with dignity, independence and a sense of belonging.
