APSPDCL puts power restoration teams on alert ahead of cyclone
Tirupati, Nov 1 (TNT): Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Siva Sankar on Sunday directed electricity officials and staff to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures in Nellore and Tirupati districts in view of the heavy rains expected due to the approaching cyclone.
In a press release, he said the two districts were likely to be severely affected by the cyclone within the APSPDCL jurisdiction and instructed officials to ensure preparedness for restoring power supply in the event of disruptions.
He asked nodal officers to continuously monitor restoration works and directed the Superintending Engineers concerned to remain vigilant in areas likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Teams comprising officers and field staff should be kept ready to take up restoration works on a war footing. Essential materials, including electricity poles, conductors, transformers, insulators, discs and safety equipment, should be stocked in advance, along with vehicles to transport them to affected locations, he said.
He also instructed officials to ensure the availability of contractors to expedite restoration works. Nodal officers had been appointed at circle, division, sub-division and section levels, while control rooms had been established across the organisation, he added.
The CMD advised consumers to keep emergency charging lights and drinking water available at home, as power interruptions could occur during heavy rainfall.
He cautioned people against touching electricity poles or standing under power lines during rain.
People noticing fallen electricity poles or snapped power lines should immediately inform the nearest electricity department officials or call the toll-free numbers 1912 or 1800 425 155333.
Consumers can also report electricity-related problems through the APSPDCL WhatsApp number 91333 31912, he said.
