Cognizant forms OpenAI group with over 25,000 professionals

Bengaluru, Oct 30 (TNT) : Global IT services company Cognizant has formed a dedicated OpenAI Frontier Capability Group comprising more than 25,000 professionals to help enterprises adopt OpenAI technologies, including Codex and ChatGPT, across software development, customer services and business operations.

The group will initially focus on three areas — AI-native software engineering using Codex, application modernisation and agentic customer operations, the IT company said in a release on Friday.

Cognizant said more than 21,000 of its employees had earned over 40,000 OpenAI badges by completing learning programmes on the company’s technologies.

The new group will focus on developing and deploying OpenAI-powered systems for clients, drawing on its workforce training and engineering capabilities.

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said the company was committing more than 25,000 professionals to help clients integrate emerging AI technologies into their businesses.

He said the company had already begun using OpenAI-based solutions in its own sales and customer success operations.

OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic said the initiative would help enterprises use artificial intelligence to transform customer services and business operations.

In application modernisation, Cognizant plans to use its Cognizant Application Modernizer, powered by OpenAI models, to support the conversion of legacy mainframe code into cloud-native applications.

The company said its engineers would review key decisions, drawing on experience in modernising mainframe systems for more than 500 clients.

The group will also apply OpenAI models to sales, service and support operations.

Cognizant said it had already co-developed an OpenAI-powered enterprise assistant for a global biopharmaceutical company.

The solution, which integrates search, content creation, translation and approval processes, has handled more than five million conversations and reduced content creation time by 60 per cent.

The company is an Advanced partner in the OpenAI Partner Network. Its Codex hackathons in India and the Americas attracted more than 12,000 participants.
