Telangana Dy CM Bhatti calls for scientific research to strengthen Ayurveda
Kanakkoor (Keralam), Oct. 27 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday called for preserving India’s rich Ayurvedic heritage while promoting scientific research and ensuring safe medical practices.
Addressing the Dhanvantari Maha Yagam at Sri Dhanvantari Temple here, he said health was the true wealth of human life and stressed the need to give priority to physical well-being, mental peace and emotional stability amid the growing stress of modern lifestyles.
He said Kerala enjoyed distinctive recognition in India and abroad for its Ayurvedic heritage, traditional knowledge of medicinal plants and specialised treatment practices.
Observing that traditional systems of medicine placed emphasis on disease prevention, balanced nutrition and harmony with nature, Bhatti said Ayurveda should be practised responsibly, with scientific research encouraged to ensure patient safety.
He noted that the 11-day Dhanvantari Maha Yagam would help highlight the importance of health and India’s traditional medical systems.
Referring to Dhanteras, he said the occasion should also be recognised for its significance as Dhanvantari Jayanti, associated with Lord Dhanvantari, regarded in Hindu tradition as the divine physician and symbol of healing and preservation of life.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed that public health and people’s welfare should remain central to development policies.
He called for sustained investment in hospitals, primary healthcare centres, medical education, research, disease prevention and public health awareness.
He urged society to extend support to patients and families unable to afford medical treatment and stressed the need to treat senior citizens, persons with disabilities and weaker sections with compassion.
Praising the contributions of doctors, researchers and healthcare workers, he recalled the efforts of social reformers Mannathu Padmanabhan, Sree Narayana Guru and Ayyankali in promoting education, dignity and social equality.
He also appreciated the initiatives of the Nair Service Society.
Calling upon the younger generation to cultivate scientific temper, innovation and a spirit of inquiry while respecting Indian culture and traditions, he said environmental protection was equally important for public health.
Preserving forests, medicinal plants, clean water resources and biodiversity was essential for the well-being of future generations, he added.
Bhatti extended his greetings in Malayalam to the organisers, temple authorities, volunteers and devotees attending the religious event and expressed his wish for peace, social harmony and the health and happiness of every family.
