Hyd: BRAOU showcases ‘Frugal AI’ initiatives at intl workshop in Malaysia
Hyderabad, OCT 24 (TNT) : Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) showcased its digital education ecosystem and frugal artificial intelligence applications at an international workshop on “Frugal AI in Education” held in Malaysia, the university said on Saturday.
The global conclave was jointly organized by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL, Canada) and Open University Malaysia, drawing academic delegates, researchers, and higher education leaders from countries including Malaysia, Vanuatu, Mauritius, and Samoa, the University said in a release.
A delegation comprising BRAOU Academic Director Prof. G. Pushpa Chakrapani and Ed.Tech Manager Sushumna Rao represented the Hyderabad-based university at the deliberations.
Delivering a presentation titled “Small Models, Big Possibilities – Exploring Frugal AI at BRAOU,” Prof. Chakrapani highlighted how low-cost, resource-efficient AI models can democratize higher learning and overcome geographical barriers for distance education learners.
She underscored the varsity’s expanding digital portfolio, citing popular online offerings including B.Com, M.Com, MBA, and M.A. (Telugu).
The participating institutions also explored multilateral research collaborations and academic exchange programs to integrate emerging AI pedagogical tools into open distance learning systems.
On the sidelines of the summit, the BRAOU delegation held a bilateral meeting with the leadership of the Malaysia Telugu Association to expand cross-border educational access for the Telugu diaspora.
Briefing community representatives, Prof. Chakrapani explained that BRAOU’s online learning framework was designed to deliver affordable, accredited higher education to non-resident Telugu speakers globally without relocation barriers.
Welcoming the outreach, Satya Sudhakaran, representative of the Malaysia Telugu Association, noted that access to flexible Indian university degrees would offer immense value to the Malaysian Telugu community.
He affirmed that the association would actively circulate BRAOU’s program schedules and assist community members in enrolling in the varsity’s online courses.
