Former IT Minister KTR asks youth to embrace AI, not fear job losses

Hyderabad, Oct 24 (TNT) : BRS Working President and former IT Minister  K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday called upon young people to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an opportunity for innovation and employment rather than fear it as a threat to jobs, stressing the need for continuous learning and skill development.
Inaugurating the India headquarters of data and AI company RandomTrees in Hyderabad, he said Telangana needed to strengthen its technology ecosystem, attract investments and prepare its workforce for emerging employment opportunities.
KTR observed that technological revolutions initially triggered apprehensions but eventually created new avenues for growth.
Recalling the resistance to the introduction of computers in the banking sector, he said adapting to technological changes was essential for progress.
Describing AI as a threat would only generate unnecessary fear, he said, urging young people to acquire new skills and remain open to changing technologies.
Emphasising the private sector’s role in generating employment, KTR said the government should focus on creating a business-friendly environment rather than attempting to provide jobs directly to everyone.
Reliable power and water supply, quality infrastructure, efficient transport and ease of doing business were essential to attract investments, he added.
He said the previous BRS government had taken several initiatives to establish Hyderabad as a leading global IT destination and attract international companies and Global Capability Centres.
He expressed confidence that the city could emerge as a major hub for AI research, data science and technological innovation.
Referring to the ‘Saagu-Baagu’ initiative in Sircilla, KTR explained how technology could help farmers identify crop pests and obtain timely solutions.
He also cited digital delivery and quick-commerce platforms as examples of technology-driven business models creating employment opportunities.
He called for closer coordination among governments, industries and educational institutions to equip young people with industry-relevant skills and ensure that the benefits of technology reached all sections of society.
