Hyd: Owaisi, Jamiat Delegation Seek Rijiju’s Intervention in Race Course Masjid Demolition Issue

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (TNT): AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and a delegation from Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind have urged Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to intervene in the Race Course Masjid issue and halt the proposed demolition, citing concerns over the mosque’s status as a gazetted Waqf property since 1977.

The Land and Development Office (L&DO) reportedly issued a six-day notice directing the occupants to vacate the premises, while power and water connections to the mosque were also reportedly disconnected.

In a post on X, Owaisi alleged that the Waqf Board had failed to challenge the demolition order or take steps to resolve the matter, despite the mosque having been recognised as a gazetted Waqf property since 1977.

He contended that the mosque was protected under the Waqf Amendment Act as a property classified as “Waqf by user” and questioned the failure of the authorities concerned to intervene.

Owaisi also pointed out that the Delhi Waqf Board had not been constituted since 2023, arguing that the Union Minister should intervene to address the issue.

He said the Board’s Chief Executive Officer could also have taken steps to protect the mosque but had not done so.

The AIMIM chief called for urgent intervention by Rijiju to resolve the matter and safeguard the mosque’s interests.
