YSRCP Alleges Intimidation of Candidates in Chandragiri Ahead of Local Body Polls

Tirupati, Oct 20 (TNT): YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Chandragiri constituency in-charge Chevireddy Mohith Reddy on Tuesday alleged that Chandragiri MLA Nani and ruling coalition leaders were intimidating opposition candidates to prevent them from filing nominations for the upcoming local body elections.

Addressing a press conference at the Tirupati Press Club, Mohith Reddy alleged that anti-social elements from Katpadi in Tamil Nadu had been brought to the Raghunatha Resort area in Tirupati to threaten opposition leaders and party workers.

He said written complaints had been submitted to the District Superintendent of Police, Director General of Police and election authorities, but expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of response.

Mohith Reddy further alleged that YSRCP leaders and activists were facing intimidation through the police to prevent them from filing nominations for the ZPTC and MPTC elections.

He expressed concern over what he described as a conspiracy to target party leaders and workers.

“We have already submitted a written complaint stating that the District SP should be held responsible if any attacks take place against our party leaders and activists,” he said.

Claiming that 70 to 80 per cent of people in villages were dissatisfied with the coalition government, he alleged that ruling party leaders were resorting to intimidation out of fear of electoral defeat.

Questioning the preparedness of the election machinery, Mohith Reddy asked how free and fair elections could be conducted if threats and attacks by anti-social elements were allowed to continue.

He also alleged that former Tirumala Nagar Sarpanch Siva Shankar Raju was being threatened for applying to the panchayat authorities for a No Dues Certificate and questioned the fairness of the action.

Mohith Reddy asserted that the YSRCP would win more than 70 per cent of the seats if elections were conducted peacefully across all six mandals in the Chandragiri constituency.

He accused coalition leaders of attempting to create disturbances and provoke violence ahead of the polls.

Warning against political violence, he said those resorting to attacks should consider the consequences of their actions.

He urged the police and election authorities to intervene immediately, ensure the safety of opposition candidates and party workers, and provide a peaceful environment for all political parties to participate freely in the electoral process.
