UltraTech Commissions Rs 2,650-Crore Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal in 14 Months

Nandyal, Oct 19 (TNT): UltraTech Cement has commissioned its Rs 2,650-crore integrated cement plant at Petnikota in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district within 14 months of groundbreaking, creating the potential for 2,650 direct and indirect jobs, State Minister for HRD, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh said on Monday.

The plant, located at Petnikota village in Kolimigundla mandal of the Rayalaseema region, has a clinkerisation capacity of 3.3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and a cement dispatch capacity of 3.6 MTPA.

Construction began in May 2025.

According to Lokesh, the facility will provide direct employment to 650 people and indirect employment to another 2,000.

He described the commissioning within 14 months as a reflection of the state’s efforts to accelerate industrial development and facilitate investments.

The plant has been designed to operate entirely on green energy, with a 35 MW hybrid wind and solar power system supported by battery storage and a 20 MW waste heat recovery system.

It does not have a captive thermal power plant and is designed to eliminate groundwater use through conservation and recycling measures.

The facility also incorporates an alternative fuel system using plastic and municipal waste, electric vehicles for mining and clinker transportation, covered raw material storage sheds, concrete roads and an extensive green belt.

The plant will manufacture composite cement using slag and fly ash, while its technological features include a fully automated robotic laboratory, automatic sampling and analysis systems, a cross-belt analyser and automated hot meal analysis for real-time process optimisation.

Energy-efficient kilns, coolers, grinding mills and other equipment have been installed to improve operational efficiency.

RFID-based vehicle tracking and unmanned weighbridges have also been incorporated to streamline logistics.

Lokesh said the investment by UltraTech Cement, India’s largest cement manufacturer, would strengthen the state’s industrial base, generate employment and support economic development in the Rayalaseema region.
