Hyderabad Traffic Police register 100 cases over fake number plates, seize vehicles
The seized vehicles include 88 two-wheelers and 12 four-wheelers, said D. Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad City, in a release.
The special enforcement drive was launched to curb the misuse of vehicle registration numbers, prevent evasion of traffic regulations and strengthen road safety and crime prevention.
The police said fraudulent number plates were being used to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement and avoid statutory requirements, posing challenges to investigations and legal accountability.
All vehicle owners have been directed to comply with the registration plate specifications prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, including applicable High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) requirements.
The use of fake registration numbers, altered digits, unauthorised fonts, decorative lettering, stickers and other modifications that conceal or misrepresent genuine registration details is prohibited, the statement said.
The police said special enforcement drives would continue and warned that legal action would be initiated against violators.
Motorists have been urged to ensure that their registration plates are genuine, clearly visible and legible, and conform to prescribed standards. Citizens have also been requested to report suspected cases of fraudulent number plates to the police for verification and necessary action.
Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that strict action would continue against vehicles displaying fake or tampered registration plates.
