Sustainable Packaging Emerges as Key to Manufacturing Growth: CII Telangana

Hyderabad, Oct. 16 (TNT): Sustainable packaging, circular economy practices and smart technologies are emerging as key drivers of manufacturing efficiency and export competitiveness, industry leaders said at TG-PackCON 2026 in Hyderabad on Friday, calling for greater collaboration among industry, government and regulatory bodies to accelerate innovation in India’s packaging sector.

Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Telangana, the conference brought together industry stakeholders to explore business opportunities and challenges in packaging, with discussions centred on sustainability, pharmaceutical and food safety, automation and global trade.

M. Goutham Reddy, Chairman of CII Telangana, said adopting sustainable packaging solutions was essential to reducing environmental impact while meeting the evolving needs of consumers and businesses.

A. V. P. S. Chakravarthy, Chairman of TG-PackCON 2026 and Chairman and Managing Director of Ecobliss India Private Limited, said packaging could serve as a strategic catalyst for economic growth, manufacturing excellence and global trade.

He called for greater adoption of sustainable materials, circular packaging solutions, improved pharmaceutical packaging standards and smart technologies to strengthen India’s global competitiveness.

R. P. Naidu, Regional Head of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), highlighted the role of packaging innovation in strengthening agricultural and processed food exports.

He encouraged businesses to explore APEDA’s support schemes for export infrastructure, quality development and market access.

Dr Narendran, Deputy Drugs Controller (India) at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), stressed that packaging and labelling were critical to pharmaceutical quality and patient safety.

Compliance with regulatory requirements was essential to ensuring the identity, strength and purity of pharmaceutical products, he said.

Gaurav Maheshwari, Vice-Chairman of CII Telangana, said the industry needed to develop solutions that used fewer materials and less energy while improving recyclability and meeting changing consumer expectations.

The conference covered four key areas: policy and global trade; pharmaceutical and life sciences packaging; circular economy and sustainable materials; and smart technologies and automation.

Discussions focused on export competitiveness, regulatory compliance, extended producer responsibility (EPR), design for recycling, sustainable materials, artificial intelligence and digital supply-chain solutions.

The conference underscored the need for industry, government and regulatory institutions to work together to advance sustainable and globally competitive packaging solutions.

CII Telangana said the initiative would continue to promote industry dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collaboration to support the growth and transformation of India’s packaging sector.
