TG SAFE detects irregularities in 137 medical shops in statewide raids

Hyderabad, Oct. 15 (TNT): The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) detected irregularities in 137 medical shops during a statewide enforcement drive against the illegal sale and diversion of habit-forming drugs on Thursday.

The Drugs Wing of TG SAFE, along with Enforcement Wing police personnel, conducted raids in vulnerable areas of the CURE region, including Saroornagar, Balapur, Hayathnagar, Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Begumpet and Amberpet zones.

Similar inspections were carried out in several districts across Telangana, the Authority said in a release.

The inspections focused on the illegal sale and diversion of habit-forming medicines, including Nitrazepam, Alprazolam, codeine-containing cough syrups, Tramadol, Tapentadol, Pregabalin-containing formulations and Zolpidem.

Following the inspections, show-cause notices were issued to the medical shops where discrepancies were detected. Departmental action, including suspension or cancellation of drug licences, will be initiated, according to the press note issued by TG SAFE.

The enforcement drive is part of the ongoing efforts to curb the unauthorised sale and diversion of habit-forming drugs in the CURE region and other parts of the state.
