TTD steps up forest conservation and wildlife protection in Seshachalam

Tirumala, Oct. 15 (TNT): The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is taking measures to improve green cover and protect biodiversity and wildlife in the Seshachalam forest region, TTD Forest Range Officer Doraswamy said on Thursday.

Addressing the media at the Media Centre in Tirumala along with DRO Madhusudhan, he said red sanders, sandalwood and medicinal plants were being nurtured in the forest area.

Nakshatra Vanams are being developed at Paruveta Mandapam, while greening works are under way along the Alipiri ghat road and the Srivari Mettu footpath route.

Flowering and fragrant plants are also being raised at Vaikuntam Queue Complex-1, GNC Tollgate, Alipiri and other locations to enhance the surroundings for devotees.

Wildlife movement, particularly leopard activity, is being monitored round the clock by TTD forest staff. CCTV cameras, trap cameras, solar-powered cameras and drones are being used for surveillance. A remotely monitored system is also expected to be introduced to strengthen vigilance, he said.

As part of its conservation measures, plastic has been banned in the Seshachalam forest area, he said devotees have been warned against carrying plastic bottles and covers into forest zones, with strict action proposed against violators.

Doraswamy appealed to devotees not to feed monkeys or other wild animals along the ghat roads, stating that feeding them could alter their natural feeding habits and disturb the ecological balance.

He also urged visitors not to discard plastic waste in forest areas and called for their cooperation in preserving Tirumala’s greenery and biodiversity.
