KIMS Hospitals, BIMS, four Liverpool NHS bodies sign MoU for healthcare collaboration
The MoU was signed during a Liverpool City Council delegation’s visit to Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The partnership brings together KIMS Hospitals and BIMS with the NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHL Group), Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust.
The collaboration envisages joint research, clinical exchanges, medical training, fellowships and workforce development.
It will also explore opportunities for Indian doctors to gain experience in the UK healthcare system and for British doctors to undertake placements across the KIMS Hospitals network in India, with BIMS coordinating the initiatives.
KIMS Hospitals Chairman and Managing Director Dr Bhaskar Rao Bollineni said the partnership would facilitate joint research, fellowships and knowledge exchange, drawing on the participating institutions’ specialist expertise.
BIMS Managing Director Dr Sai Pillarisetti said the institution would help strengthen links between the organisations and develop collaborative initiatives in healthcare, education and research.
Liverpool City Council Leader Cllr Liam Robinson said the partnership would open up opportunities for research, innovation, education and economic development while strengthening ties between Liverpool and Hyderabad.
UHL Group Deputy Group Chief Medical Officer Professor Jim Gardner said the collaboration would enable healthcare professionals to share expertise, pursue research and innovation, and participate in exchange and fellowship programmes.
Professor Rafael Guerrero, congenital cardiac surgeon and director of Alder Hey Global Health, said the partnership would provide opportunities to explore cooperation in children’s healthcare, education, research and clinical knowledge exchange.
KIMS Hospitals operates 29 hospitals with more than 8,000 beds across India, providing tertiary and quaternary healthcare services.
UHL Group operates six hospital sites in Liverpool, while Alder Hey, Clatterbridge and The Walton Centre specialise in paediatrics, cancer care and neurosciences, respectively.
The organisations said the MoU would provide the framework for the proposed collaboration, with implementation governed by the agreement and other institutional arrangements.
The delegation’s visit follows the signing of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement.
