Hyd: 81-Year-Old Retired Official Wins Five Medals at Asian Masters Swimming Championships

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (TNT): Lakshmi Narayana Kollipara, an 81-year-old retired Additional Secretary to the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Government, won five medals, including three golds, at the 2nd Asian Masters Swimming Championships 2026 held in Bengaluru from October 4 to 10.

Kollipara clinched gold medals in the 200-metre freestyle, 200-metre breaststroke and 400-metre freestyle events. He also won silver in the 100-metre freestyle and bronze in the 50-metre freestyle.

A regular swimmer at the Vayupuri Recreation Centre in Sainikpuri, Hyderabad, Kollipara attributed his success to disciplined practice, regular exercise and his passion for swimming.

The championships, organised by the Swimming Federation of India at the Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru, featured individual and relay events for masters swimmers aged 25 and above, including participants in the 80-plus age category.

Kollipara’s achievement highlights the importance of fitness and active participation in sports at an advanced age.
