BLR Airport to Celebrate Karnataka’s Dasara with Six-Day Cultural Fest
The celebrations aim to bring Karnataka’s cultural heritage into the passenger experience through activities across Terminals 1 and 2, offering travellers an opportunity to explore the state’s art forms and traditions, the airport said in a release on Friday.
A key attraction will be the Dasara Gombe display at the T2 Arrival Forecourt, curated by Padma Shri awardee and puppeteer Anupama Hoskere.
The display will showcase the Gombe Habba tradition of festive doll arrangements from October 12 to 17.
Traditional leather puppetry, Togalu Gombeyatta, will be presented by ninth-generation puppeteer Gunduraju and his team on October 16 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the T2 Arrival Forecourt.
Passengers can also participate in hands-on activities at the Channapatna Experience Centre, where they can paint traditional lacquered wooden toys, and the Terracotta Experience Centre, which will offer figurine-painting activities.
A games zone curated by Kavade will feature traditional board games, including Huli Kuri, Saalu Aata, Aligulimane, Chowkabara and Spiral Snakes and Ladders.
The airport will also feature Karnataka-inspired planters, Dasara umbrellas, emblems and installations, along with a traditionally adorned elephant at Bengaluru Duty Free and an all-women Dollu Kunitha performance.
As part of the celebrations, BLR Airport will collaborate with chef Ranveer Brar and 080 Lounges for “A Dasara Challenge. A Karnataka Answer.”
Kannadigas will be invited to share their favourite Dasara recipes, with the winning entry to be recreated by 080 chefs and served to travellers at participating lounges on October 20.
Shalini Rao, Chief Marketing Officer of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), said the celebrations would showcase Karnataka’s heritage through music, dance, puppetry, traditional games and curated food experiences, creating opportunities for travellers and visitors to connect with the state’s culture.
The festivities are part of the airport’s broader “Feels Like BLR” campaign and its Art and Culture programme, which incorporates local artistic traditions into the airport environment.
