AP CM Naidu meets Modi, seeks Centre’s support for AP projects

New Delhi, Oct 8 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought the Centre’s financial and policy support for key state projects, including the Polavaram project, Godavari Pushkarams, Godavari-Cauvery river linking and major infrastructure initiatives.

Naidu conveyed greetings and best wishes to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Andhra Pradesh and congratulated him on completing 25 years in public life.

The Chief Minister praised Modi’s leadership and said his foresight, clear goals, decisive action and effective governance were transforming India into a global power.

He also appreciated the Prime Minister’s emphasis on cooperative federalism and partnership with states in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat.

During the meeting, Naidu briefed  Modi on major development projects in Andhra Pradesh, the state’s economic situation and issues relating to agriculture and irrigation.

On irrigation, he explained the latest status of the Polavaram project and highlighted the benefits of linking the Godavari and Cauvery rivers.

He said the proposed river-linking project would help ensure adequate water availability to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The Chief Minister said the development of road networks and power grids under NDA governments, along with river-linking initiatives, could pave the way for a national water grid.

Naidu said extensive arrangements were being made for the Godavari Pushkarams in 2027 and requested the Prime Minister to provide financial assistance for development works being undertaken for the event.

He said devotees from the two Telugu states and other parts of the country and abroad were expected to attend the Pushkarams.

The Chief Minister informed Modi that Andhra Pradesh had recorded 53 per cent deficit rainfall due to the impact of El Nino, severely affecting the agricultural sector.

He explained the measures being taken by the state government to mitigate the impact of drought.

Naidu also briefed the Prime Minister on the objectives of the Global Horticulture Hub recently launched at Madanapalle with the support of the Centre.

He said the foundation stone had been laid for the Indian School of Agriculture on the lines of the Indian School of Business.

He sought the Centre’s support for major infrastructure projects, including the proposed Outer Ring Road in Amaravati.

He also requested approval for the Visakhapatnam Metro and briefed the Prime Minister on the proposed Beach Road project.

The Chief Minister further explained the objectives of the Swarna Andhra–2047 Vision, aimed at ensuring that the benefits of development reach all sections of society.
