Hyd: Amala Akkineni launches debut novel by ACFM alumnus Krishna Kiriti
Hyderabad, Oct 2 (TNT): Annapurna College of Film and Media Director Amala Akkineni on Thursday launched Shiva Rupaya Vishnave: Part One – The Warhorse and The Dancer, the debut novel by S.S. Krishna Kiriti, an alumnus of the institution’s 2018 batch, at a special event held at Shiva Theatre, Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad.
Published by Mayasabha Publications, the novel is the first volume of The Shiva Rupaya Vishnave Trilogy, a literary-historical series spanning eight centuries of South Indian history.
The launch was attended by students, alumni and guests of Annapurna College of Film and Media.
The novel follows Emperor Sri Krishna Devaraya, who returns to celebrate the prosperity of the Vijayanagara kingdom three years after the end of a war but remains troubled by memories of the past.
When conventional remedies fail, a dancer from Kuchipudi offers him a story as a means of relief.
The narrative moves backwards through eight centuries, exploring the lives of kings, warriors, sculptors, philosophers, priests, dancers and ordinary people whose actions contribute to the creation of a deity.
The trilogy explores themes of faith, memory, inheritance, political power, loyalty and betrayal.
Written in English and rooted in Telugu cultural and historical traditions, the novel blends literary and historical fiction with mythology and philosophical inquiry.
A distinctive feature of the book is an original song written by Kiriti, composed by Mani Sharma and sung by S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. Readers can access the song through a QR code included in the book.
Kiriti, a Hyderabad-based author and Telugu film screenwriter, holds a master’s degree in film and media from Annapurna International School of Film and Media.
He has worked as a writer and assistant director in Telugu cinema and is the founder of Mayasabha Publications.
The independent publishing imprint will publish the author’s literary works, including The Shiva Rupaya Vishnave Trilogy, Mahakali and Lava Kusa Ramayana, while retaining creative control over publishing, translation and adaptation rights.
