69 people receive Swachha Andhra Awards in Kakinada

Kakinada, Oct 2 (TNT): Kakinada District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad on Friday called upon people to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives to achieve Swachha Andhra in the true spirit of Gandhi Jayanti.

Addressing the district-level Swachha Andhra Awards-2026 presentation ceremony at the Smart City Conference Hall, the Collector said cleanliness was the foundation for achieving Swarna Andhra and urged every citizen to take responsibility for making the state clean.

A total of 69 people received the awards.

He said that while October 2 was traditionally associated with the observance of Gandhi Jayanti, the introduction of the Swachha Andhra Awards had generated public interest, with people keen to know whether their panchayat or municipality would receive recognition.

The Collector said the Chief Minister had designated every third Saturday of the month for cleanliness programmes and was according priority to sanitation initiatives.

He thanked the Chief Minister on behalf of the people for the initiative.

Referring to the state’s development goals, Harendhira Prasad said the government aimed to increase every citizen’s per capita income to Rs. 15 lakh by 2047 and ensure that no family remained below the poverty line.

He stressed that cleanliness could not be the government’s responsibility alone, calling on citizens, commercial establishments, hotels, residential complexes, private and government hospitals, and schools to actively contribute to sanitation efforts.

KUADA Chairman Thalatam Satya, MLCs Karri Padmasri and Perabathula Rajasekharam, Kakinada Urban MLA Vanamadi Kondababu, Joint Collector Apurva Bharat, trainee Collector Priya, DCMS Chairman Chandramouli and Municipal Commissioner Satyanarayana attended the programme as guests of honour.
