CBI court sentences former Income Tax officer to five years in bribery case
Aurangabad, Oct 1 (TNT) : A CBI court in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Maharashtra, has sentenced former Income Tax Officer Satish Kumar Bhadani to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh in a bribery case.
The court convicted Bhadani, then posted at the Income Tax Office in Jalgaon, on September 29, 2026, the agency said in a release on Wednesday.
According to the CBI, the case was registered on September 23, 2016, following a complaint from a taxpayer in Jalgaon.
The complainant alleged that Bhadani had demanded a bribe to avoid detailed scrutiny of the income tax returns filed by the complainant and his wife and to issue favourable assessment orders.
The CBI laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while accepting Rs 40,000 from the complainant.
After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on December 28, 2016. Charges were framed against the accused on December 20, 2021. Following the trial, the court convicted and sentenced him.
