Treat blood donation as a responsibility: Kakinada Collector

Kakinada, Oct 1 (TNT) Kakinada District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad on Thursday urged people to treat voluntary blood donation as a social responsibility, emphasising its importance in saving lives.

Inaugurating a mega blood donation camp at PR Government Degree College to mark National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the Collector said blood was invaluable and blood donation was as important as organ donation.

Interacting with students, he encouraged them to participate in social service activities while maintaining their health and avoiding junk food. He also urged the youth to stay away from drugs and other narcotic substances.

The Collector said healthy individuals should donate blood regularly, highlighting the importance of voluntary donation in meeting medical requirements.

Yarlagadda Dasaradha Ramarao, chairman of the State Red Cross Society and guest of honour, said the organisation supplied around one lakh units of blood through its 20 blood banks across Andhra Pradesh.

In the erstwhile combined East Godavari district, free blood transfusions were provided to thalassaemia patients every Tuesday, he said. He urged young people to support voluntary blood donation and help move away from the practice of purchasing blood.

Assistant Collector Priya, HDFC manager Anantha Kumar, PR Government Degree College principal Dr M V K Mehar, camp convenor Dr P Kiran Kumar, lecturer Anjaneyulu, Samuel, and college NSS and NCC officers and cadets participated in the camp.
