TG SAFE seizes 6,368 habit-forming drug capsules in Sangareddy
Hyderabad, Oct 1 (TNT): The Drugs Wing of Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) seized 6,368 capsules of a habit-forming drug worth Rs 58,904 during a raid on a medical shop at Tellapur village in Ramchandrapuram mandal of Sangareddy district.
The officials raided Sri Ganesh Medical and General Stores based on credible information and detected the illegal stocking and indiscriminate sale of Pyeevon Spas Plus capsules containing Tramadol, the Authority said in a release on Thursday.
The capsules, bearing batch number QYECL022, were allegedly stocked without purchase bills and sold without issuing sale bills, in violation of the Drugs Rules, 1945.
Tramadol is an opioid analgesic used to manage moderate to severe pain. Classified as a Schedule H1 drug, it can be sold only against a valid prescription issued by a registered medical practitioner. Its misuse can lead to dependence and serious health consequences, the release said.
The raid was conducted by Assistant Director P Ramu of Patancheru and Drugs Inspectors M Chandrasekhar of Patancheru and N Ravikiran Reddy of Sangareddy.
Further investigation is underway, and action will be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law, TG SAFE said.
The authority warned medical shops against the illegal sale or diversion of prescription medicines and said violations involving habit-forming drugs would be dealt with strictly.
