Andhra Pradesh reconstitutes panel to look into attacks on journalists

Amaravati, Sept 30 (TNT): The Andhra Pradesh government has reconstituted the High Power Committee to look into cases of attacks and assaults on journalists for a period of two years.

The State Home Minister will head the committee as chairman, while the Minister for Information and Public Relations will serve as vice-chairman, According to Government Order (G.O.Rt.No.1913) issued by the General Administration (I&PR) Department on Wednesday,

The committee will include the Principal Secretary to the Home Department, Principal Secretary to the General Administration (Political) Department, Ex-Officio Secretary to the General Administration (I&PR) Department and the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order).

Representatives of recognised print journalist unions, including the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation and Andhra Pradesh Journalist Forum, will also be members.

The panel will further include a government-nominated representative of the management of major daily newspapers or periodicals, a representative of the Small and Medium Daily Newspapers Association of Andhra Pradesh, a representative of the Andhra Pradesh Electronic Media Journalist Association and a representative of the Photographers Association.

The Director of the Information and Public Relations Department will serve as member-convenor and may co-opt an ex-officio member, depending on the need and importance of the matter.

The government has directed the Director of Information and Public Relations, Vijayawada, to take necessary action to implement the orders.
