DRI seizes 4.9 kg cocaine worth Rs 24.5 crore at Hyderabad airport; one arrested
Hyderabad, Sept 30 (TNT): The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 4.9 kg of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 24.5 crore in the illicit market, from an Indian passenger arriving from Doha, Qatar, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted the passenger on September 29 and examined his cabin baggage.
During the examination, officials found seven tubes of Lindt Lindor assorted filled dark chocolates, each bearing a marked weight of 387 grams, the DRI officials said in a release here.
Suspecting that the tubes were unusually heavy, the officers opened them and recovered 207 light-yellow, oval-shaped capsules concealed among the chocolates.
The capsules contained a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.
A test using a narcotic drug detection kit indicated the presence of cocaine, according to the DRI.
The agency seized the contraband, weighing 4.9 kg (gross weight), and arrested the passenger under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Further investigation is in progress.
