Telangana Governor backs breast cancer awareness campaign; Lok Bhavan illuminated in pink
Hyderabad, Sept 30 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday supported the 18th edition of the ‘Paint the City Pink’ campaign organised by the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection.
Lok Bhavan was illuminated in pink on Wednesday evening to mark the beginning of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Governor joined Padma Shri awardee and UBF founder and chairman Dr. P. Raghu Ram in supporting the initiative.
Lok Bhavan has been participating in the campaign for the seventh consecutive year.
Other landmarks illuminated in pink included the Charminar, Buddha statue, Arts College at Osmania University, Prasads IMAX, T-Hub, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge and KIMS Hospitals.
“Paint the City Pink is not merely about illuminating buildings; it is about spreading hope, breaking the silence surrounding breast cancer and reminding women that early detection saves lives,” the Governor said.
Dr. Raghu Ram said Hyderabad was the only city in the world where several historic monuments and prominent buildings had been illuminated in pink on a single night for 18 consecutive years.
Launched in 2009, the campaign aims to dispel misconceptions about breast cancer and encourage women to seek timely medical advice.
Medical experts advise women to consult a doctor about any new or persistent changes in their breasts, as early detection can improve treatment outcomes and survival prospects.
