Ilamma’s struggle inspires people’s government’s commitment to social justice: Telangana CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, Sept 25 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday paid tributes to Chakali Ilamma on her 131st birth anniversary, recalling her role in the Telangana Armed Struggle and her fight against oppression and exploitation.
The Chief Minister said Ilamma’s struggle for land, livelihood and rights remained an inspiration for Telangana society and represented ideals of social justice, equality and self-respect.
Drawing inspiration from Ilamma, the people’s government was according priority to the upliftment of Backward Classes, poor, women and marginalised communities, he said.
Revanth Reddy recalled Ilamma’s battle against feudal oppression and said the statue of ‘Telangana Talli’ was designed drawing inspiration from heroic women, including Sammakka-Saralamma and Chakali Ilamma.
He also said the Women’s University at Koti was named after Ilamma in recognition of her contribution to the struggle for social justice.
The Chief Minister said the government was taking measures to improve educational opportunities for BC students and facilities in residential schools and hostels, besides initiatives aimed at the economic empowerment of youth and women.
Providing equal opportunities, dignity and justice to every section of society would be a befitting tribute to Chakali Ilamma, the CM said.
