Global Peace Summit in Washington calls for international cooperation to end conflicts
WASHINGTON, Sept 24 (TNT): Political, diplomatic, faith, business and community leaders from several countries gathered in Washington, D.C., for a Global Peace Summit that called for greater international cooperation, dialogue and diplomatic efforts to address ongoing conflicts.
The summit brought together around 100 participants, including US House Speaker Mike Johnson and Global Peace President Dr K.A. Paul, along with representatives associated with the US, Iran, India, Pakistan, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Russia, Ukraine, Congo and Afghanistan, according to the organisers on Thursday.
Participants discussed the human and economic consequences of armed conflicts, including displacement, humanitarian suffering, rising food and energy costs, and broader economic insecurity.
Representatives from Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu communities also participated in the discussions, alongside political, diplomatic, business and civil-society representatives.
The organisers said participants emphasised diplomacy, dialogue and cooperation as means of addressing international disputes and called for continued engagement among governments, faith groups, businesses and civil-society organisations.
Paul said the gathering reflected a shared responsibility to work across national, religious and political differences to protect human life and promote peace.
According to the organisers, the summit also called for efforts to find peaceful solutions to major international conflicts and strengthen cooperation across national and religious boundaries.
The Global Peace Initiative said it seeks to bring together representatives from different countries, faith traditions and sectors of society to promote dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful approaches to international conflicts.
