AP CM Naidu directs officials to utilise rainwater flows to fill reservoirs
AMARAVATI, Sept 24 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed officials to utilise the ongoing rainwater flows to fill reservoirs, tanks and other water bodies across the State and remain alert in view of rising inflows into rivers and reservoirs.
At a review meeting at the Real-Time Governance (RTGS) Centre, Naidu asked officials to fill reservoirs in the Krishna and Godavari deltas and other water bodies in their respective areas.
Officials informed him that groundwater levels had improved following rainfall over the past three days.
Around 11,000 cusecs of water was flowing into the Prakasam Barrage from the Munneru and other catchment areas.
Naidu directed officials to utilise Godavari flows to fill Yeleru Reservoir with 24 TMC of water and supply water through the Polavaram Left Canal to water bodies up to Anakapalli.
Heavy rainfall was reported in 16 districts, including Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Manyam, Kakinada, the Godavari districts, Eluru, Krishna and NTR districts.
The Chief Minister reviewed rainfall, wind intensity, river and stream flows, reservoir inflows and forecasts for the coming days and directed officials to continuously monitor the situation and take precautionary measures.
Officials expected heavy inflows into reservoirs in the Godavari basin, including Sabari, Indravati, Yeleru, Tandava, Yerrakalva, Pampa and Meghadrigadda.
Inflows into Yeleru were expected to reach 21,200-26,500 cusecs, Tandava 6,000-7,500 cusecs, Meghadrigadda 2,400-3,000 cusecs and Pampa 3,100-3,875 cusecs.
Gotta Barrage was expected to reach Warning Level-I by September 25 morning, while Bhadrachalam was likely to reach Warning Level-I by September 26 afternoon and Warning Level-II by that night.
Dowleswaram Barrage was expected to reach Warning Level-I by September 27 morning and Warning Level-II by evening, officials said.
Naidu also directed officials to use AI and data analytics to forecast the impact of El Niño and issue advisories to farmers.
He called for measures including soil testing, alternative crop planning, biochar and natural farming to mitigate its impact.
He further directed officials to expand the use of AI Living Labs and data analytics across government departments and asked the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh to prepare an annual sports calendar, including competitions at the village level.
