Over 1,100 Ganesh idols immersed in Kakinada amid rain
Kakinada, Sept 24 (TNT): Over 1,100 Ganesh idols of various sizes were immersed at different ghats in Kakinada urban and rural areas during the past two days, marking the grand finale of the Ganesh Navarathri celebrations.
Despite the cyclonic weather and rain, devotees took out colourful processions accompanied by musical bands and followed the guidelines issued by the police.
The Nagara Ganesh Utsav Samithi, which has been organising the Ganesh idol immersion programme in Kakinada city and rural areas for the past 12 years, functioned this year as an affiliate body of the Andhra Pradesh Ganesh Utsav Samithi.
The immersion programme was organised in an orderly manner under the supervision of Andhra Pradesh Ganesh Utsav Samithi district unit president Sithapathirao, Parishad leader Kanchimarti Peda Appaji, BJP district president Bikkina Visweswerarao and senior leaders Yenimireddi Malakondaiah and Duvvuru Subrahmanyam.
By Thursday evening, around 1,000 idols had been immersed at Suryaraopeta in Kakinada rural and at Vinayaka Sagar and One Town Jetty in the urban area, with large numbers of devotees participating despite the inclement weather.
The Utsav Samithi arranged a large crane at One Town Jetty to facilitate the immersion of bigger idols. It also presented appreciation certificates to organisers of Ganesh pandals for conducting the celebrations on a grand and orderly scale.
Kakinada district SP Bindu Madhav made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peaceful immersion without any untoward incidents. The SP personally monitored the movement of processions in the city on Wednesday night and Thursday.
The police deployed two Additional SPs, two DSPs, 20 Inspectors, 34 Sub-Inspectors, 74 ASIs, 171 constables and 121 Home Guards for the immersion programme.
