Hyderabad, Feb 22 (TNT): Telangana Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Sunday demanded that State Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy personally conduct an inquiry into the recent incident in Banswada of Kamareddy district.
In a statement, the VHP strongly condemned the incident, alleging that Hindu devotees were attacked during a procession, leading to tension in the town.
The organisation claimed that certain anti-social elements had deliberately attempted to disturb communal harmony.
The VHP said the incident hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community and created fear among local residents.
It demanded strict action against those responsible and urged the authorities to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
In a separate statement, VHP National spokesperson Dr. Ravinuthala Shashidhar called for a thorough and impartial investigation and appropriate legal action against those involved. He also urged the Telangana High Court to take suo motu cognisance of the matter.
Alleging that attempt-to-murder cases were registered against Hindus who had approached the police seeking justice, the VHP demanded withdrawal of such cases.
It further sought an inquiry into the functioning of certain madrassas in Banswada.
The organisation also called for a probe into alleged illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators in the town and sought an investigation into what it termed growing extremism in the area.
Warning of agitation, the VHP said it would launch a state-wide protest if the cases registered against Hindus were not withdrawn.
