NIA arrests two more in counterfeit currency case at PNB currency chest
New Delhi, Sept 21(TNT): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two more persons in connection with the alleged circulation of counterfeit Indian currency notes through the Punjab National Bank currency chest in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Saharanpur, and Rajendra Kumar, also from the district, the agency said on Sunday.
According to the NIA, both were close associates of key accused Adesh Choudhary and were allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
The case relates to the recovery of counterfeit currency notes with a face value of Rs 17.29 crore from the PNB currency chest in Saharanpur on August 29.
The inquiry also brought to light the alleged involvement of three bank employees, who were subsequently suspended by the bank.
The case was initially registered at Sadar Bazar police station in Saharanpur under Section 178 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against three accused and was re-registered by the NIA on September 3.
The agency had earlier arrested FIR-named accused Amit Kumar on September 7 and Adesh Choudhary on September 15.
The NIA said its investigation is continuing to uncover the full conspiracy and identify and arrest other co-accused and suspects.
