AP: Sahithi Varshini earns Woman Grandmaster title: SAAP Chairman congratulates
Tirupati, Sept 20 (TNT): Young Andhra Pradesh chess player Sahithi Varshini has earned the prestigious Woman Grandmaster (WGM) title after securing her third and final WGM norm at the IM VII Round Robin Chess Tournament in Serbia, Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority (SAAP) Chairman Ravi Naidu said on Sunday.
Congratulating the 19-year-old player on her achievement, Ravi Naidu said completing all three WGM norms at a young age reflected her talent, determination and sustained efforts.
Varshini scored six points from nine rounds to finish second in the Serbia tournament and recorded a performance rating of 2408, besides gaining 23 rating points.
Ravi Naidu said Varshini’s achievement had brought recognition to Andhra Pradesh and showcased the state’s sporting talent on the international stage.
He said the success of young sportspersons such as Varshini would encourage the State Government and SAAP to further promote and nurture sporting talent.
The SAAP Chairman expressed confidence that Varshini would achieve more milestones and bring further recognition to Andhra Pradesh and the country.
He also hoped that her achievement would inspire more youngsters in the state to take up chess and excel at national and international levels.
