PM distributes over 51,000 appointment letters at 20th Rozgar Mela
New Delhi, Sept 19 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited youth in various government organisations at the 20th Rozgar Mela held through video conferencing, and called upon them to use their positions to make governance more responsive and citizen-centric.
Addressing the new appointees, Modi said their achievement was the result not only of their hard work but also of the sacrifices and support of their parents and families.
He said the recruits were joining government service at a time when the country was working towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The Prime Minister said the youth had a key role in strengthening the campaigns for a developed and self-reliant India through their administrative decisions.
He also said the talent and skills of Indian youth had earned global confidence, creating opportunities for innovators, entrepreneurs and young professionals.
Referring to the recently concluded BRICS Summit, Modi said initiatives such as BRICS CONNECT and the BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal were aimed at expanding international cooperation beyond government-to-government engagement and bringing entrepreneurs, farmers, women and youth into global partnerships.
He said Free Trade Agreements with around 40 countries were opening new markets for Indian entrepreneurs and creating additional career opportunities for the youth.
On skilling, Modi highlighted the National Education Policy, Skill India Mission, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and promotion of apprenticeships.
He also referred to the PM-SETU scheme, under which 1,000 government ITIs are being modernised with an investment of Rs 60,000 crore and industry participation.
The Prime Minister said India had emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with nearly half of recognised startups now based in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
He said youth from smaller towns and cities were increasingly building enterprises and creating employment opportunities.
Highlighting measures for private-sector employment, Modi referred to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana, a Rs 1 lakh crore initiative aimed at bringing two crore youth into the formal workforce for the first time.
The scheme provides incentives of up to Rs 15,000 for first-time employees and incentives to employers creating additional jobs, he said.
Linking employment generation with economic growth, the Prime Minister said new opportunities emerge as investment increases, industries expand and new sectors develop.
He cited a 7.8 per cent growth rate and nearly 12 per cent increase in investment in the first quarter of the financial year and attributed the growth to reforms undertaken in recent years.
Modi urged the newly appointed officials to continue the reform process during their tenure, particularly in areas such as tax and compliance, ease of doing business, education and skilling, innovation and ease of living.
He asked the recruits to use their authority to remove hurdles faced by citizens and young people and ensure that administrative decisions facilitate innovation, investment and employment.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of continuous learning and technological upskilling through Mission Karmayogi.
He said the Karmayogi Prarambh module was designed to help new entrants understand the government system, while around 1.7 crore employees were already on the iGOT platform.
Emphasising the importance of public trust in government, Modi said the conduct, efficiency, honesty and sensitivity of government employees directly influence citizens’ experience with the state.
He called upon the new recruits to follow the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava”, saying that making citizens’ lives easier should be regarded as an important measure of success in public service.
The 20th Rozgar Mela was held at 45 locations across the country, with more than 51,000 appointment letters distributed. With this edition, about 12.75 lakh youth have received appointment letters through the Rozgar Mela initiative.
