Special Campaign 6.0 to focus on e-waste disposal: Coal Ministry
New Delhi, Sept 14 (TNT): The Government of India will undertake Special Campaign 6.0 from October 2 to 31, 2026, with a special focus on the effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste.
The campaign will build on the achievements of Special Campaign 5.0, under which the Ministry of Coal and its public sector undertakings undertook extensive cleanliness and waste-management activities.
During Special Campaign 5.0, more than 1.13 crore square feet of area was cleaned and over 14,017 metric tonnes of scrap was disposed of, generating revenue of Rs 56.85 crore.
According to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) report, the Ministry of Coal emerged as the top performer among Union ministries and departments in the category of space freed and ranked third in revenue earned during the campaign.
The Ministry achieved 100 per cent disposal of public grievances and PMO references and completed 100 per cent of the targeted file review, with 2,56,478 files reviewed and 1,28,527 files weeded out or closed.
The Ministry also undertook extensive public outreach during the campaign, issuing 3,107 social media posts, 841 press releases and 29 PIB statements, besides receiving wider media coverage.
As part of innovative initiatives under the campaign, an Eco Park in the Orient Area of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd features representations of the four Char Dham shrines, created entirely from 7-8 tonnes of salvaged material.
The sculptures incorporate retired LHD spares, conveyor belt parts, pump components, drill machine spares and electrical equipment.
During the period from November 2025 to August 2026, the Ministry and its PSUs cleaned 83.92 lakh square feet of space and disposed of more than 15,585 metric tonnes of scrap, generating Rs 55.29 crore in revenue.
Freed spaces were utilised for plantations, horticultural activities, beautification, widening of passages, parking, office arrangements and storage, among other purposes.
The Ministry said the achievements reflected its continued focus on cleanliness, environmental sustainability and efficient resource management.
In preparation for Special Campaign 6.0, the Ministry of Coal held a meeting on September 1 under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary (Coordination), attended by nodal officers from Coal India Ltd and its subsidiaries, NLC India Ltd, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, Coal Controller’s Organisation and Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation.
