Hyd: TOMCOM Asked to Facilitate 10,000 Overseas Placements for Telangana Youth
Hyderabad, Sept 10 (TNT): Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Thursday directed officials of the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) to prepare a comprehensive action plan to facilitate 10,000 overseas placements for youth from the state during the current year.
Jaju , who reviewed the functioning and activities of TOMCOM at a meeting held at the Secretariat here , discussed measures to substantially scale up its overseas employment initiatives.
He said the primary objective of TOMCOM should be to create more employment opportunities for Telangana youth by connecting them with legitimate and suitable job opportunities abroad.
The Chief Secretary directed officials to adopt a focused and outcome-oriented approach to achieve the target and identify countries, sectors and occupations witnessing growing demand for skilled manpower.
He also asked TOMCOM to design placement-oriented programmes based on the requirements of international labour markets and align its skill development and training initiatives accordingly.
Jaju directed the company to formulate a clear framework for partnering with reputed private recruitment and skill development agencies to expand the reach and scale of overseas placements.
Under the proposed framework, eligible private agencies could be onboarded as principal partners of TOMCOM for identifying suitable candidates, providing necessary training and facilitating their placement abroad.
He stressed that such partnerships should enable TOMCOM to reach a larger number of youth across the state while ensuring transparency, credibility and adherence to prescribed procedures.
The Chief Secretary called for greater emphasis on skill-based overseas employment and directed officials to prepare a detailed roadmap with measurable targets, country-wise and sector-wise opportunities, training requirements and timelines for achieving the annual placement target.
Secretary, Skill, Human Capital and Knowledge Training Initiatives, D Harichandana, gave an overview of the functioning and achievements of TOMCOM.
She informed the meeting that TOMCOM has so far facilitated 14,509 overseas placements across 16 countries, highlighting the organisation’s experience and potential to further expand its overseas employment initiatives.
Jaju appreciated the work undertaken by TOMCOM and called for substantially scaling up its activities so that a larger number of Telangana youth could benefit from overseas employment opportunities.
